I have been plagued with chronic impetigo for about 15 years now. I hate it, it makes me want to rip all my skin off. However, that wouldn't generate shareholder value, so here's how I manage it instead.
(If you're a parent of a small child, or will be in the future, consider hanging onto this; it should make your life a lot easier when it comes to dealing with this garbage.)
This stack is composed of two treatments: hydrogen peroxide, the seeker, and chlorhedixine (Hibiclens), the destroyer.
The intended use case is to head the infection off at the pass: at the first sign of infection (sudden warm spot near the mouth or nose, split skin at the corners of the lips, etc.), apply the seeker. Any location where foam appears is either a developing infection (and the H2O2 is reacting with bacteria), or at high risk for infection (and the H2O2 is reacting with the layer under the skin).
Next, apply the destroyer to the foam spots. Reapply after eating, showering, or licking the area. Avoid touching the area, and sanitize your hands before applying either part of the stack.
If you suspect your nose has been colonized by Staph bacteria, swab it every morning and evening with chlorhexidine until you can get a nasal swab done.
Neosporin and Mupirocin melt, even when rubbed into the skin (I run fairly hot, and I live in the South, so guess how I know.)
Overapplication of penicillin can result in an allergy (as it did with me) or mutations in the bacteria that create resistance.
I was inspired by this guy, along with some research I did during summer 2023.
